You are indeed wrong, very wrong. Both Rory and Chris H have extensive backgrounds in motor journalism going back for a decade.

You’re right! I forgot Harris started at Autocar and Evo. I just remembered him for Petrolhead and Jalopnik.
Reid only did the “car journalism thing” for Cnet’s “Car Tech” as far as I know, so I’m not sure I’d call that “extensive experience.”

... he literally has his own car channel at Recombu Cars. It’s the reason they hired him. Plus he’s done car television work in the past. To be blunt, Rory is probably the most knowledgeable about cars on the cast and has by far and away the most experience presenting therefore in my mind he should be the lead host.

Oh wow I didn’t see that browsing his Wiki page. I’ll check out some of his videos when I get home and probably change my opinion about him then.
It’s weird to me that if he does have all this auto-journalism experience he’s billed as the tech guy. In the first episode of Extra Gear it felt like Harris needed to teach Reid about cars, and Reid’s Volvo review on the second just felt like listing specs.
If he’s as experienced as you say he is, I hope the BBC allows him to show it. Right now though, I’d still say his presentation felt a bit generic. Hopefully it improves.

I agree with most of this, but I disagree on Stig, Rory, and the rallycross car.
I like the mystique of the Stig, he’s meant to be mysterious and more than just your average racing driver (remember how long it took for an F1 driver to beat him, and the fanfare that came when it happened?). He’s also useful for more than just lap times around the track. For example, when he sets the benchmark for the hosts to beat in a road trip challenge, or when the hosts team up to try to beat him.
As for Rory, I think he’s actually grossly underutilized, like Harris. He knows cars and he’s got the potential to do some great bits (watch his review of the 4C or the Phantom). He’s also much better at celebrity interviews than Evans.
In regards to the celebrity bit, I agree they need to do stars one at a time. I think they’re bunching people together just because they wanted big names as quickly as possible and wanted times on the board. Personally I would have preferred the way the last generation did it whenever they replaced the car, with a sort of celebrity track day. (Also, the interviews so far have been downright painful. YOU PEOPLE HAVE GRAHAM NORTON! LEARN FROM HIM!)
In terms of the track itself though, I like the new circuit. If we’re honest the old track wasn’t really that exciting as a track, it’s pretty much just a figure 8 on a pancake. And how many people were really comparing celebrity laps to Stig test laps? It’s been years since a celeb was within even ten seconds of a test car. Maybe it’s because I’m a dirt guy, but I like the new track and I like the potential it brings. It’ll be an equalizer for celebs and racers alike (I’m assuming the F1 boys will switch to this circuit as well), as the dirt requires a very different and very foreign approach. And it's more fun for the stars who get to drive it. It’ll also be interesting to see what the track is like in poor weather.

I am watching ep 2 while writing this and I am wishing I had the remote closer to me. For the most part, you are correct, and I agree with the guy that said about waiting for The Grand Tour. This show is so weighed down with stupid writing (for Christ’s sake, I could do better). Let these guys do their job spontaneously and be funny without all of the stupid crap.
The new studio looks like it fell out of a sitcom and the audience dumbs it all down, but the studio is nowhere near as be as what goes on inside it. One star at a time please, I have a hard time keeping up with all of the stars doing things all at once. While we are on the stars, the interviews are CRAP, and I mean CRAP! Evans goes on like the teacher from the Peanuts. And, for the love of God, get rid of the rally cross section. I am a fan of rally cross, I even like it better than F1, but this is just terrible. This is almost as bad of a violation of hallowed ground than the first time they played car rugby. Now, as for the myriad of hosts on the show, get rid of most of them, and get rid of Extra Gear. People are tired of the crappy writing after the first hour much less having to go through 2 just to get a dram of car data.
Take Harris from Extra Gear and keep Matt as hosts, they are actually quite good. Criss Evans however, needs to go, but right now; not only is he even more anal than May, he is half as entertaining. Also, what was not mentioned in the article above, he reduced a producer to tears after letting off a tantrum on them. With Harris and Matt, they have plenty of car knowledge, bring in somebody genuinely funny and likeable, but still a little immature. Yes, I am saying that they need a Jeremy Clarkson figure. I think someone like Craig Ferguson would be good. POWER!!!
And on that Bombshell, this comment can end. Yes I said it.
